Neurosensory Disturbance following Bilateral Sagittal Split Osteotomy Surgery for Mandibular Advancement
نویسنده
چکیده
Bilateral Sagital Split Osteotomy (BSSO) is one of the most common surgeries for the management of mandibular retrognathism. However, nerve damage and lip paresthesia is possible after the surgery. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the incidence of neurosensory disturbance after BSSO surgery. 42 patients in need of mandibular advancement participated in this study. The sensory status was evaluated by means of two point discrimination test (TPD) prior the surgery, 3 and 6 months after surgery. Data were analyzed in SPSS software using t-test and repeated measures tests. 41 patients with mean age of 22 years completed the study. TPD was significantly increased after 3 months (P-value < 0.05). However, TPD was reached the level of preoperative value after 6 months (P-value > 0.05). The main trigger annoyance in paresthesia was touching. Based on the results of the present study, neurosensory disturbance after mandibular advancement with BSSO technique was transitory and mostly resolved after 6 months.

Inferior Alveolar Nerve Damage Related to Mandibular Advancement by Sagittal Split Osteotomy
Background and Objectives: Split sagittal osteotomy is a common operation that may induce inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) damage, potentially leading to sensory deficit, numbness, and pain. Investigations in Iran to evaluate the adverse effects of sagittal split osteotomy surgery are rare so questions have been raised about the success rate of operatio...
متن کاملNeurosensory disturbances one year after bilateral sagittal split mandibular ramus osteotomy performed with separators.
BACKGROUND The most frequently performed osteotomy for correction of mandibular retrognathia is a bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy. Permanent neurosensory disturbance of the inferior alveolar nerve is one of the most frequently and severe complications. Many authors have reported this, but the incidence differs widely. In the recent literature, only four authors have reported a percenta...

PURPOSE The aim of the present study was to evaluate the potential morphologic risk factors for postoperative neurosensory disturbance (NSD) after bilateral sagittal split osteotomy. PATIENTS AND METHODS The study subjects were 30 skeletal Class III patients (9 males and 21 females), with a mean age of 22.0 years (range, 16-39 years). All patients underwent bilateral sagittal split osteotomy ...

Statement of Problem:The choung osteotomy (Intraoral Vertico- Sagittal Ramus Osteotomy) has developed since 1992 in the treatment of mandibular prognathism. In IVSRO, osteotomy plane is theoretically parallel to the original sagittal plane and thereby attempting to decrease the incidence of condylar dispacement. This osteotomy designed additionally to decrease neurosensory disturbances.Purpose...
متن کاملNeurosensory Disturbance after Bilateral Sagittal Split Osteotomy
Neurosensory disturbance is a common complication of bilateral sagittal split osteotomy (BSSO). This study focuses on the evaluation of factors affecting neurosensory disturbance after BSSO. Furthermore, the study focuses on the measurement of neurosensory disturbance with easily available bedside tests, not only on evaluating the state of sensory disturbance at each follow-up, but also on pred...
